With the smooth takeoff of CA 1867 at 19:30, May 28th, the overhaul of Capital Airport mid-runway was successfully completed and accepted by industry, officially resuming operation in advance.
During the nearly 140 hours of mid-runway’s construction, Capital Airport and other operation-supporting organizations overcame multiple pressure and difficulties, including high construction technical requirements and difficult safety operation guarantee. By running Operation-supporting Management Committee, Passenger Service Promotion Committee and News Propaganda Coordination Committee in all weathers, Capital Airport performed nearly 1,400 flights per day smoothly, while guaranteeing both quality and quantity in completing the total workload of 32,000㎡ asphalt pavement overhaul with high quality.
In terms of pavement construction, Capital Airport optimized the mix proportion of asphalt and concrete, and employed new material like high modulus asphalt to increase the non-deformability of the pavement. In the meantime, BCIA installed pavement data collection system in relevant area, by regularly assessing pavement condition to achieve scientific evaluation of the overall performance of the runway.
In terms of airlines operation, in order to minimize the influence of this overhaul operation on airlines operation and travel experience of passengers, BCIA and related airlines studied the flight plans during the overhaul repeatedly, adjusting around 1,700 flights per day to nearly 1,400. In the meantime, BCIA actively coordinated air traffic control departments, ensuring the priority to the flights of Capital Airports during the overhaul and its smooth operation.
After the mid-runway of Capital Airport was put into operation in 1958, it received the first overhaul in 1996, and no flight operation was affected in the both ends of the runway during the recostrution in 2013. BCIA has long been attaching great importance to the runway condition. It exams the three runways regularly, makes detailed maintenance schedule of each day, week and month, detects and handle runway problem timely and eliminates all potential safety hazards.
