BCIA and Abu Dhabi International Airport Establish Sister Airport Relationship

On 19 December 2017, Beijing Capital International Airport Co., Ltd. and Abu Dhabi Airports (ADAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a sister airport relationship between Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) and Adu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), officially forging a partnership. Mr. Liu Xuesong, President of Capital Airports Holding Company (CAH) and Chairman of BCIA, Mr. Han Zhiliang, Vice President of CAH and President & CEO of BCIA, Mr. Wang Weiyu, Vice President of BCIA, Mr. Shen Lancheng, Chief Financial Officer of BCIA, His Excellency Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE Embassy in China, Mr. Abdul Majeed Al Khoori, Acting CEO of ADAC, Mr. Mohammed Al Katheeri, SVP Strategy and Planning of ADAC, Mr. Saoud Alshamsi, SVP Commercial of ADAC, and representatives from the UAE Embassy in China, Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism attended the signing ceremony.

According to the MOU, the two sides will strengthen communication and exchange in various areas including airport operation, route development, air hub development, service and commercial management, carry out cooperation of mutual benefit, and jointly promote the improving of each other’s levels of management and operation.

Mr. Liu Xuesong, President of CAH and Chairman of BICA, commented: “The ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ has brought about great opportunities for the development of the air transport and airport industry of both countries. We expect the two sister airports to enhance exchanges and cooperation, learn from each other to improve passenger experience and to contribute to the strengthening of personnel exchanges and trade between Beijing and Abu Dhabi.

His Excellency Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE Embassy in China, commented: “UAE is among the countries that first responded to China’s “Belt and Road” Initiative and cooperation between UAE and China has been expanding.” He expects BCIA and AUH to carry out practical cooperation, increase connectivity between Beijing and Abu Dhabi, and promote exchanges between our two peoples.

Mr. Abdul Majeed Al Khoori, Acting chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, commented: “We are excited to be collaborating with a globally leading aviation partner, as this MOU will be the base for strategic partnership and collaboration between AUH and BICA. It will enable sharing best practices, exploring challenges, and working together with the aim of elevating the levels of quality of services and facilitates in both international hubs.”

Abu Dhabi is the capital of United Arab Emirates and also the capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the UAE’s seven emirates. AUH is the hub of Etihad Airways and the second largest airport in the UAE. As one of the fastest growing airport hubs, AUH is constantly improving its service quality and won the 2016 ACI Airport Service Quality Award “Best Airport in the Middle East”.

To date, the BCIA has established sister airport relationship with 36 airports around the globe, including Hong Kong Airport, Changi Airport, Narita Airport, Heathrow Airport, Sidney Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Havana Airport, Washington Dulles Airport and Manas International Airport.
