Announcement on Restating the Regulations on Carrying Lithium Battery (Portable Chargers) When Passengers Take Civil Aircrafts

Announcement of the Civil Aviation Administration of China 2015 Announcement No. 8

There has already been several security incidents triggered by lithium battery (portable chargers) in the flights of civil aviation since May 2015,which brings potential security risks to the air transport. In order to ensure safe air transport, we hereby restate the following provisions on carrying lithium battery (portable chargers) when passengers take civil aircrafts:

I. Carrying any lithium battery (portable chargers) in the Checked Baggage is strictly prohibited.

II. Carrying lithium battery (portable chargers) with rated capacity exceeding 160Wh is strictly prohibited; carrying no more than two lithium battery (portable chargers) with rated capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh is allowed if it is approved by the airline company.

III. Carrying any lithium battery (portable chargers) without clear identification is strictly prohibited.

IV. Using any lithium battery (portable chargers) during the flight is strictly prohibited.

V. Carrying any lithium battery (portable chargers) for any purpose other than personal use is strictly prohibited.

Passengers in violation of the above-mentioned provisions will be subject to serious treatment by the public security authority based on specific scenario, according to relevant national laws and regulations.

The above-mentioned provisions are also applicable to the aircraft crew members.This announcement takes effect from the date of publication.
